TappyBee’s YouNow Tips!

Check out this awesome YouTube video by YouNower Tapiwa Bururu. She gives some great tips for new and current broadcasters on on YouNow.com.

Here are TappyBee’s Twelve YouNow Tips:

1) Always be prepared when coming on to broadcast. Whether you have a topic planned or you plan to sing a song. Make sure it is all prepared before hand so you can have a smooth broadcast!

2) Don’t rush people off to go live. Let everyone take the time they need to broadcast.

3) Be considerate for the amount of people in the queue. If 50 people are waiting you don’t want to be on too long.

4) Be nice in the chat. If you tell people to vote down they will remember and may vote you down for that reason.

5) Don’t beg for fans. It’s ok to mention it once or twice but you should earn your fans and let them become a fan of you when they are ready.

6) Besides broadcasting you should interact in the chat and with the YouNow community. This way you can build friendships and they will vote you up when you come on.

7) Appreciate your fans and the gifts they give you. Thank them whenever you can. You should also mention them when they become fans. And when they ask you questions try your best to answer them.

8) Give people at least three minutes to see if they are interesting or not. Everyone should get a chance.

9) Don’t let the haters get you down. If you get voted down just keep coming back in the queue. Show them you will not give up.

10) Watch the site to see when haters are at their lowest and highest. Try to broadcast when a lot of your friends are on so this way you can stay on and have fun!

11) Be safe and if people ask for your phone number don’t give It to them. Also don’t give out your location and other personal information. You have to be as safe as possible.

12) And last but not least just be you, Don’t be fake because people can see through that.

YouNow For N00bs

“YouNow for N00bs” is a brief tutorial for new YouNow users. It will take you through the various exciting parts of the site, and when you’re done, you will be more than ready to get started on YouNow.

GO LIVE, LOG IN, & YOUR INFO

In the upper right hand corner you are met with the Go Live and Log in & Earn Points buttons.  Let’s start with the Log In button first.

We require users who wish to participate in YouNow’s social aspects to log in via Facebook.  Once logged in you will be able to vote, chat, broadcast, earn coins, gain fans and recruits.

Above the Log In button you will see My Media, My Stats and My Settings.

Under My Media you will find all of your past broadcasts and a basic view of all of you YouNow information, including fans, earnings and recent activities. This is your public profile page - share it with the world!

My Stats brings up a more detailed and data-driven view of your YouNow stats.  Here you are able to send messages to all your fans, and also see fans, twitter followers and facebook friend requests gained per day. Additionally, you can make your broadcasts Public or Private from this page. This page is private, and can only be seen by you.

Then there’s My Settings.  This is where you edit and update your personal information, control your notification preferences, and promote your other online social media outlets (i.e. Twitter, YouTube, blog, etc.) by providing links in your public profile. These are displayed in your YouNow profile throughout the site. You can link your Twitter to YouNow so you can get the word out to your followers when you go live.

IMPORTANT - Be sure to fill out your mailing address, gender and t-shirt size.  This will ensure we can send you any prizes you might win to the correct address.

Once logged in you will see your YouNow coins and level.

Coins & Levels are earned by:

  • Broadcasting.
  • Active participation on the site - the more time you spend watching, voting and chatting the more Coins you earn.
  • Daily logins to YouNow.com.
  • AND FOR THE MOST COINS: Promoting YouNow by inviting friends to come and login to YouNow. Use the sharing features and earn Coins for each person that came to the site from your Facebook post, Twitter Tweet, Email, Tumblr link, etc.

Want to broadcast live the world?

Then click the Go Live button.

From here, there are two steps before going live.

Step 1: Camera and Mic Setup
Here you will do a short camera, microphone, and connection speed test to ensure that your setup will represent you in the best way possible to your audience on YouNow.

Step 2: Choose Channel and Title

It’s almost time to shine! in Step 2 you will select a channel to broadcast in, name your broadcast, and decide if you’d like to share your broadcast via Facebook and Twitter. Click Submit Broadcast when you’re ready to go!

After submitting your broadcast, you will wait in the queue of the channel you selected in Step 2. If for some reason you change your mind, and want to leave the queue, you can click DROP OUT to exit the queue.

When it’s your turn to go live, we give you a 10 second countdown… it’s almost time!

 And you’re live!

BROADCAST WINDOW

This is where you will see the current broadcast.  Above and below the window is information that is linked to the broadcast and the broadcaster.  Above the broadcast on the left is the broadcast status.  This will toggle between Live and Rerun depending on whether or not the broadcast is live.Next to the broadcast status is the broadcaster’s level, which is depicted by a star and number.  In the center is the broadcaster’s name and location.  The far right is the current length of the broadcast.

Below the broadcast window is the voting panel.  This panel is one of the most important features on YouNow, as it decides whether a broadcaster stays live.  On the far left is the green thumbs up, which is used if you want to keep the broadcaster on for another minute.  The far right however, is the red thumbs down, which is used if you do not want to keep the broadcaster on for another minute. In-between the green and red thumbs is the vote bar.  This will show the amount of votes every minute. If the amount of likes exceeds dislikes, you will be given another minute, and if not then the current broadcast will be voted off.

Below the broadcast window you can see social icons, which allow broadcasters to increase their social equity.  Viewers can become a fan of the broadcaster, follow them on Twitter, friend or subscribe to them on Facebook, subscribe to their YouTube channel, view their YouNow profile, and share the current broadcast!

When a broadcast ends the broadcast summary appears.  The summary will show the broadcaster’s achievements, including: broadcast time, number of Twitter followers gained, number of Facebook friend requests, fans gained, new sign ups and gifts given.

CHAT BOX, GIFTS, & INBOX

The chat box allows viewers to interact with live broadcasters and other viewers, enhancing the both the viewing and broadcasting experiences. Below the chat box is the gifts panel.

Gifts (which include roses, kisses, coins, bling and more!) are interactive goodies that do cool things on YouNow.

Your Inbox is displayed as the envelope icon.  This will inform you on important updates and news right on YouNow.com.

THE QUEUE

Starting from the left, the queue shows the two previous broadcasts, the current live broadcast and the next six broadcasts that are next to go live. The thumbnails will rotate if hovered over and show the upcoming broadcast titles.   Clicking on a user’s thumbnail will bring up his or her Facebook information on the panel.

This panel is a valuable source of information on YouNow, and will switch every so often to also show who is currently logged in and watching in the channel.  Clicking the Show My Friends box will filter your Facebook friends and YouNow Fans.

The panel will also show the current months Reward Program.  That’s right… broadcasting on YouNow gives you a chance to win cool rewards.  So don’t be shy…GO LIVE!

YOUNOW FOOTER

At the very bottom of the site is the footer. This is were you can quickly preview/watch our most recent Tumblr post and YouTube video.

Lastly, our leaderboard displays the 9 broadcasters who have gained the most fans each week.

Now that you’re finished reading, you are armed with all the information you will need to take full advantage of what YouNow.com has to offer.

10 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR BROADCASTS ROCK

Wondering what to do when you are waiting in the queue to GO LIVE? Plan a great broadcast! Check out these 10 tips that will help make any broadcast exciting and engaging.

1. While waiting in the queue, pay attention to the current broadcaster.
Be prepared to address what they were saying and continue the conversation.

Be exciting!

2. Have something exciting to talk about or show the audience.
A sports team, your favorite band, your favorite pet. Your bedroom, an instrument, a skill or talent– dance, funny stunt, etc. Have a vision of how you would like your broadcast to go, and execute it!

3. Never start off by asking for fans or votes.
Earn them by being interesting!

4. Introduce yourself to the audience.
Remember new people join all the time – you want them to know who you are and why they should listen to you.

5. Stay positive.
As a rule, ignore bad votes or comments (there are exceptions to this rule, but they will just distract you).

6. Be outgoing, wild and inspiring.
Prepare a fun costume, wig, or make over. Be creative and have fun with it – if you are having fun, it will translate to your audience.

7. Balance your time.
As your broadcasting, remember the majority of people want to see you broadcast. It’s just boring to watch someone respond to trivial chat questions for more than a minute here or there.

8. Be seen.
Make sure you have good lighting for your broadcast. You want to look your best, as poor lighting can be detrimental to any broadcast.

9. Poll the audience.
Ask people yes or no questions to get them engaged… or “Type 1 in the chat if you want me to do a backflip…  Type 2 if you want me to eat a goldfish!”

10. Use Twitter / Facebook to enhance your broadcasts.
Have fans tweet you during your broadcast using @younow and your twitter handle, or mention you and YouNow on facebook, and then give them a shout out – they deserve it!

Stay tuned for more posts about making your YouNow.com broadcasts the best they can be!
